Many of you may remember that for the month of April I have worn the same dress as a participant in the One Dress, 30 Days Campaign for Streetlight Phx, a nonprofit working to eradicate child sex slavery in Arizona. My original goal with this campaign was to find ten or so participants and to raise a few thousand dollars–Fast forward six weeks to a few significant facts:
- Eighty-nine women and ten children registered for the campaign, in states across our nation which included Arizona, California, Oregon, Montana, Michigan, Indiana, Texas, Ohio, and North Carolina.
- Over 400 individuals donated.
- Our original goal of $3,000 was exceeded SEVEN times over, bringing in $21,000 in less than seven weeks!!!
- Public awareness increased as participants spoke to strangers about the cause they were participating in…Participants lives were changed as they daily donned the same dress and grew in appreciation for the many choices they regularly have in their lives.
For me the most significant part of this experience was in witnessing women and children give voice to the voiceless by doing such a simple act…wearing a dress and refusing to stay silent about the injustices happening to our youth, in our neighborhoods, by our neighbors.
As more of us continue to speak out on behalf of the voiceless, fight for the powerless and bring clarity to distortion, we WILL see our culture change and be a part of transforming another layer of American history.
We will be part of bringing the kingdom of God to Earth rather than waiting passively for the Earth to be rescued…
